Directions to Worsell Wood from the Harp Inn

  • Turn left out of the Harp Inn and continue straight. You will pass St Stephens church on your right, followed by a row of houses and bungalows on your left.
  • After half a mile, take the turning on your left and follow the winding road downhill through Burlingjobb to the B4594.
  • Cross the B4594 and walk straight ahead to the end of Hunter lane.
  • (Here, a right turn will take you to Hanter Hill, the Offa’s Dyke Path and the monkey puzzle trees – posts coming soon)
  • Worsell Wood is on the left, past the residential house and through a gate.
  • From here you can complete a circuit of Worsell Wood in either direction – turn right if you want to compete the steepest incline at the beginning, rather than the end.
  • Alternatively, turn right and pass through the gate to climb to the peak.
  • Gilwern Brook flows past Worsell Wood at the north-east. This can be fast flowing after heavy rain.
  • Return to the Harp Inn for a cold drink via Hunter Lane and Burlingjobb.
  • Alternatively – to reduce the difficulty, drive down and park by the access point on the B5494.

When to Visit Worsell Wood

Worsell Wood is a suitable walk all year round. Due to overhanging trees, the paths stay relatively mud free, even after a particularly wet period.

We especially recommend Worsell Wood in the spring when the ground is blanketed in bluebells and wild garlic.
